Generic Pletal ( Cilostazol )
Pletal Tablets for Intermittent Claudication
Pletal contains cilostazol, a prescription phosphodiesterase III inhibitor used to reduce symptoms of intermittent claudication. Intermittent claudication is leg discomfort, cramping, weakness, or numbness brought on by walking because of reduced blood flow. By reducing platelet aggregation and widening certain arteries, cilostazol can improve walking distance in appropriate patients. Patients who buy Pletal need a valid prescription and assessment for peripheral arterial disease. Pletal price can differ by strength, pharmacy, supply, insurance, and location, but price does not establish that this treatment is appropriate.
Pletal does not replace smoking cessation, supervised exercise where suitable, management of blood pressure and cholesterol, diabetes care, or vascular follow-up. Sudden pain at rest, a cold or pale limb, nonhealing sores, rapidly worsening symptoms, chest pain, or stroke-like symptoms need urgent medical assessment rather than a medication change. A cost concern should be addressed with the prescriber or pharmacist without delaying care.
Indications
Pletal is indicated for reducing the symptoms of intermittent claudication as demonstrated by an increased walking distance. A clinician should determine whether leg symptoms are caused by peripheral arterial disease or another condition such as spinal disease, joint disease, or neuropathy. Do not use Pletal for unexplained leg pain or use it to treat heart failure, acute limb ischemia, or a blood clot without diagnosis and specialist direction.
According to clinical trials summarized in prescribing information, some patients respond within two to four weeks, although treatment for up to 12 weeks may be required before benefit can be assessed. This timing varies and does not guarantee improvement. Patients with a valid prescription may buy Pletal 50 mg or Pletal 100 mg only when that strength matches the prescribed regimen. Pletal price comparisons should be for the same prescribed tablet strength and quantity.
Dosage
The usual labeled adult dosage is 100 mg twice daily, taken at least 30 minutes before or two hours after breakfast and dinner. A 50 mg twice-daily regimen may be required when certain CYP3A4 or CYP2C19 inhibitors are used. Follow the specific prescription label, because the correct regimen depends on other medicines and clinical factors. Do not take Pletal with grapefruit juice unless the prescriber confirms it is acceptable, because grapefruit can affect drug exposure.
Patients who buy Pletal 50 mg or buy Pletal 100 mg should take the tablets on the schedule prescribed, not adjust a dose according to symptoms or Pletal price. If a dose is missed, take it when remembered unless close to the next dose; do not double doses. If there is no benefit after an adequate trial, contact the prescriber for reassessment rather than continuing indefinitely or increasing the dose independently.
Safety Information
Pletal is contraindicated in patients with heart failure of any severity. Other drugs that inhibit phosphodiesterase III have been associated with decreased survival in people with severe heart failure, and cilostazol carries this boxed warning. Tell the prescriber about heart disease, angina, heart-rhythm problems, bleeding disorders, low blood pressure, liver or kidney impairment, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and any planned procedure.
Common adverse effects can include headache, diarrhea, abnormal stools, palpitations, dizziness, peripheral edema, and infection-like upper respiratory symptoms. Seek urgent care for fainting, chest pain, a fast or irregular heartbeat, shortness of breath, black or tarry stools, vomiting blood or coffee-ground material, unusual bruising or bleeding, or a severe allergic reaction. New palpitations or symptoms suggesting a heart-rhythm problem require prompt contact with a clinician. Cost should never delay assessment of these symptoms.
Interactions
Cilostazol is metabolized through CYP3A4 and CYP2C19 pathways. Ketoconazole, itraconazole, erythromycin, clarithromycin, diltiazem, omeprazole, and similar inhibitors can increase exposure and may require a lower dose. Review antiplatelet medicines, anticoagulants, NSAIDs, and other medicines that increase bleeding risk. Do not buy Pletal from an unverified source or share it with another person.
Store tablets at room temperature in a dry, tightly closed container and away from children and pets. A Pletal price quote should be checked with a pharmacist against the exact prescription before any refill substitution is considered.
Medical disclaimer: This content is informational and does not replace advice from a licensed healthcare professional. Pletal is a prescription medicine; patients should follow their prescriber’s directions and seek urgent care for serious cardiovascular, bleeding, or allergic symptoms.
